Dr. Katharine Smart is a Qualified Specialist in the province of BC. She is dedicated to providing thorough and compassionate Autism diagnostic services for children and their families. Dr. Smart has been the pediatric lead of the Yukon Autism Diagnostic program for the last 5 years. Her training and expertise ensure that each assessment is conducted with the highest level of professionalism and care.
Dr. Smart’s comprehensive assessment for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) (children 6-18 years old) includes the following components:
1. Pediatric Assessment and Physical Exam: A detailed evaluation of your child’s medical history and a physical examination to rule out any underlying medical conditions that may affect development and behaviour.
2. Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised (ADI-R): A structured interview conducted with parents or caregivers to gather in-depth information about the child’s early development, communication, social interactions, and behaviour.
3. Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS): A standardized assessment that involves observing the child’s communication, social interaction, and play or imaginative use of materials.
4. Full Diagnostic Report: Based on the assessments and observations, Dr. Smart will provide a comprehensive diagnostic report. This report will include detailed findings, a diagnosis (if applicable), and recommendations for intervention and support. This report meets the requirements for the diagnosis of ASD in the province of British Columbia and the forms required to access ministry funding will also be provided.
Dr. Smart is committed to offering family-centered care, ensuring that families are supported throughout the diagnostic process. Her approach emphasizes understanding each child’s unique needs and providing personalized guidance to help families navigate the next steps in their child’s development.
Comprehensive autism assessment is not funded by MSP. ** Assessments are paid before or on the day of service. Any cancellations less than 24 hours before the appointment will be charged the full cost of the session fee.
